Monday, February 27, 2023

Monday, Feb. 27

Highlights:

  • Today in Math, we worked on regrouping addition and subtraction equations that involve three-digit numbers. It was important for us to remember to always start with our ones! We used our base ten pictures to help us solve the equations.
  • In Literacy, we continued learning about poetry. We learned that poems have 3 R's (rhyme, repetition, rhythm). A poem has at least one of the R's. Today we focused on rhyme and created a rhyming couplet. Each line in the poem has the same amount of syllables and also rhymes at the end. Ask me what I came up with!
  • For PE, we played badminton. We practiced different skills like keeping the birdie up. Ask me what other skills we used.
  • Today in Science, we created a sound producing device! We made panflutes out of straws. Ask me which straw made a high pitch and which made a low pitch.

  • Today for Field Study, we went on a nature walk through the rainforest. We created a visual journal page including the things we saw and heard.

Reminders:

  • Please book a Parent Teacher Conference for either March 9 or 10 using your Parent PowerSchool portal.
  • We will be doing a building challenge in Science in the next little bit and are asking students to bring any recycled materials that they have from home to help with this activity. Examples of items we are looking for are cardboard, empty tissue boxes, small clean plastic containers, bottle caps, paper towel tubes etc. Any materials that you are able to donate to this activity are greatly appreciated!

Thursday, Feb. 23

Highlights:

  • In Math, we used the break it apart strategy to solve three digit equations for both addition and subtraction.
  • For Literacy, we learned about open and closed syllables. We practiced counting the syllables by counting how many times our chin drops. We discussed how closed syllables have only one vowel followed by one or more consonants and an open syllable has only one vowel and it is the last letter in that syllable. Ask me what is an example of each!
  • In PE, we did three different centres. Ask me what my favourite was.
  • We did a special project for a community member today. Carl is a gentlemen that lives in the community and he will be celebrating his 100th birthday on March 7. We created birthday cards to help celebrate this important day!
  • For Social Studies, we learned about the goods and services that are found in Peru. Ask me what is an example of each.
