Highlights:

  • This morning we went on our final community walk for the year. We had so much fun playing at the Vivo Park!
  • During PE, we played capture the flag! 
  • For Social, we learned about different international organizations that help those in the world. Ask me what is one example.
  • Today was the Grade 5 grad assembly. At the end of the day we did a whole school clap out to celebrate them!

Reminders:

  • Report Cards are open for viewing now.
  • Tomorrow is the last day of school. It will also be pajama day! Students are also invited to bring a board game that they would like to play with others and an extra snack for our afternoon movie!

Highlights:

  • Today in Math, we did an esti-mystery. Ask me if my estimation was correct!
  • For Literacy, we wrote down our summer bucket lists. Ask me what I put on mine!
  • In PE, we played gaga ball one last time! We also had the choice to do hula hoops, basketball, or paddle ball.
  • For Music, we did our final talent show performances. We then sang karaoke to some of our favourite songs. 
  • In the afternoon we went out to the baseball diamond and played kickball!
  • During Social, we continued learning about globalization. We learned about some environmental concerns around the world. Ask me what is an example.

  • We will be going on our community walk tomorrow. Please see yesterday's blog for further details.
  • Report cards will be open for viewing tomorrow.
  • Pajama Day is on Thursday.

Highlights:

  • In Math, we finished up our graphing unit. Ask me what I learned about graphs!
  • For Literacy, we started a visual journal page of our Grade 3 memories. We read a story called Memory Jars. Ask me what some of my memories are!

  • In PE, we did four stations outside. Ask me what they were!
  • In the afternoon, we did an art picture.
  • For Social, we learned about globalization. Ask me what this means!

Reminders:

  • On Wednesday we will be going on a community walk to Country Hills Village Pond and stopping at the Vivo Park.  We will be leaving the school at 9:30am and returning around 10:30am.  Below is a map of the route we will be taking. 


  • Thursday is the last day of school. It will also be pajama day!

Highlights:

  • Today was Play Day! We had activities both inside and outside the school. Ask me which ones I went to and my favourite one.
  • For Literacy, we learned about oral story telling using symbols. We then created our own stories. Ask me what my story was about and the symbols I used.
  • For Social Studies, we worked on finishing up our Tunisia postcards and Tunisia doors that we started.  
Reminders:
  • Next Thursday will be Pj Day! It will also be the last day of school.
  • Report Cards will be open to view on Wednesday.

Highlights:

  • Today in Math, we finished working on our bar graphs. Ask me what the two different axis are called.
  • For Literacy, we completed our storyboards based on the Indigenous oral story we heard yesterday.
  • We had a special opportunity to visit the Grade 2 class. They invited us over to their book launch. We listened as they shared their animal research books.
  • In PE, we went outside and had four different stations that we rotated through. Ask me which was my favourite. 
  • In Music, we had a few more children share their talents with us! We sure are a talented bunch!

Reminders:

  • Play Day is tomorrow with a western theme!
    • Students are reminded to dress for the weather and bring a water bottle.
    • Students may bring sunscreen but we are not able to help them apply it.
    • We will be providing freezies at the end. If you DO NOT want your child to have one please email us and send an alternative snack for them to enjoy

Highlights:

  • Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day. Many of our learning activities connected to this important day.
  • For Math, we learned about the turtle calendar and how some Indigenous use this to count the days. Ask me how the calendar works.

  • In Literacy, we listened to an oral story called the Mouse and the Buffalo Skeleton. Ask me what the story was about and one of the important lessons that we learned. 
  • In PE, we played a variety of Indigenous games. Ask me which was my favourite. \

  • This afternoon in Art, we did Metis inspired dot art! Ask me what natural item I chose to paint.

  • Play Day is on Friday with a western theme. 
    • Students are reminded to dress for the weather and bring a water bottle.

Highlights:

  • Today in Math, we gathered data and talked about horizontal bar graphs.
  • For Literacy, we completed our animal nonfiction books.
  • In PE, we played Mario Kart again. It was a ton of fun!
  • For Social Studies, we learned about how the people of Tunisia adapt to their environment. Ask me what is an example. 
  • In Science, we learned about some of the different adaptations that animals have to survive. We then did a fun activity where we had to camouflage a butterfly somewhere in the room. Ask me where I put mine!

Reminders:

  • Friday is Play Day. The theme is western. Students are welcome to dress in western wear if they would like!

Highlights:

  • In Math, we created dot plots and bar graphs using data. Ask what the difference is between the two.
  • For Literacy, we reviewed some of the different text features in non fiction books. We then started a mini animal research project. Ask me what animal my partner and I are creating our book for.
  • During PE, we played Mario Kart. It was a ton of fun! Ask me how we played this game.
  • In Science, we talked about how animals care for their young. Ask me what are some examples.
  • Today in Social we talked about the landforms and regions found in Tunisia. 

Reminders:

On Friday, June 23, outdoor and indoor Play / Sports Day activities for Grades 1-5 are planned. (There is no school for Kindergarten on Friday but Kindergarten will participate in Play/Sports Day activities with a Freezie on Thursday, June 22.)  
In line with the 2023 Calgary Stampede's theme, 'We're Greatest Together", activities will be planned to encourage the spirit of cooperation and collaboration. Students may dress in western wear on this day if they wish.​​​​​​​
Possible activities will include things such as:

The Hug & Go will be closed from 9:10 am (after drop off) until 12:30 pm to accommodate some of our outdoor Play/Sports Day activities.
Mr. Freeze Freezies will be provided. Ingredients are: Water, glucose-fructose/sugar, citric acid, simulated flavours, sodium carboxymenthyl cellulose (stabilizer), sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate (to maintain freshness, stevia extract, colour
  • If your child IS NOT PERMITTED to eat a Freezie, please email your child’s homeroom teacher to let them know and send your child with an additional alternate snack.
  • If your child IS permitted to eat a Freezie, no action is required on your part and a Freezie will be given.

Highlights:    

  • This morning in Music, we watched a folk dance that we will be learning next week!
  • For PE, we played soccer!
  • We went on our community walk to the pond! It was so great to see some of the changes that have occurred since the last time we were there. We even got to see some different animals that call the pond home.


  • After our walk, we completed our special project that we started yesterday.

  • Today in Math, we learned about first hand data and second hand data. Ask me what the difference is between the two.
  • For Literacy, we started to work on letters to our grade four teachers. Ask me what are some things I chose to write in my letter.
  • In PE, we played badminton!
  • This afternoon, we worked on a special art project! Ask me what we created.
  • In Science, we learned about animal food needs. Ask me the three ways we can sort animal food needs into and examples of animals in each group.

Highlights:

  • Today in Math we finished up our learning about algebra. We found that for some algebra questions we will see that it asks us to solve using a letter. Ask me to solve the following question.
                                    17 + a = 28
                                    What does a = ?
  • For Literacy, we reviewed the different endings that can be added to root words. We learned about the 'ing', 'ed', and 's' endings. Ask me what is an example and what it means when we add it to a word.
  • In PE, we continued with our Sports Week by doing skipping.
  • During Music, we worked on our cultural dances visual journal pages. Ask which was my favourite and why.
  • For Science, we learned about the different life cycles that each animal class goes through. Ask me what is an example we saw today. 

Reminders:

  • Tomorrow is Cool Clothes Day! Students are welcome to wear their favourite outfits to school. 
  • On Friday we will be going on a community walk to Country Hills Village Pond.  We will be walking around the pond and then returning to the school to talk about seasonal changes that we noticed since we were last at the pond earlier this year.  We will be leaving the school at 10:45am and returning around 11:45am.  Below is a map of the route we will be taking.

  • In Math, we continued practicing balancing equations. Today we focused on subtraction.
  • For Literacy, we learned about the different features that can be found in nonfiction text. Ask me what are three different ones.
  • In PE, we played hockey!
  • During Social, we learned about the traditions and celebrations that can be found in Tunisia. Ask me what are some of the traditional clothing they might wear.
  • For Science, we learned about some of the different developmental stages that animals may go through. Ask me what are some examples and what the change is called that butterflies go through. 
  • In Makerspace, we talked about the different habits animals can be found in. We used the Kiddle search engine to see each one.

  • In PE, we played basketball. It was a ton of fun!
  • For Music, we learned about some different cultural dances. Ask me which was my favourite.
  • In Science, we talked about the ways that animals can be classified. Ask me what is an example of an animal grouping.

Highlights:

  • In Math, we continued practicing balancing equations. We have to remember that the left and right side of the equal sign must be the same. 
  • In PE, Mr. Newton was back and we did Freedom Frenzy! Ask me what our choices were.
  • During the afternoon, we started an art project connected to Tunisia. We are designing and creating doors that are in the same style as the ones found in Tunisia.

  • In Maker Space, we created habitats using the materials for various animals. We had to consider where the animal might live such as the desert, rain forest, arctic, and boreal forest. Ask me what habitat my group created and for which animal.

  • Today in Math, we worked on balancing equations. Ask me to balance the ones below. 
  • In Literacy, we completed our fractured fairy tales. They have turned out really great!
  • For PE, we played kickball in the gym. We played with a few new twists. Ask me what was different!
  • In Music, we continued harmonizing and singing in a round. Ask me to sing the song below for you!

  • For Art, we worked on line drawings that included pictures of animals. Ask me what animals I had to draw backgrounds for.

  • This morning in Math, we did a show what you know for our learning on measurement. We had to measure different lengths, solve for perimeter and convert units. Ask me how I felt about the show what you know. 
  • In Literacy, we continued our work on our fractured fairytale good copies.

  • For PE, we did kickball at the baseball diamond again. Ask me what has been my favourite part of this unit.
  • We had a fire drill this morning. We did such a great job going out safely and quickly!
  • In the afternoon, we continued with our research about Tunisia in Social Studies. We also started to to learn about the quality of life found there.
