Tuesday, September 27

Highlights

  • Today during Literacy we continued to talk about parts of a sentence.  We talked about what a verb is and practiced identifying them in a sentence.  Ask me what a verb is! We also read a book called 'Just Ask' ask me what the story was about!

  • This afternoon we had music where we made our own 3 beat handshakes.  Ask me to show you the handshake I made.
  • To finish off the day we talked about different emotions and played emotion charades.  Ask me the difference between big and small emotions

Reminders:

  • Thursday is Orange Shirt Day.
  • There is no school on Friday.

On Thursday, September 29, students are encouraged to wear an orange shirt (or an orange article of clothing if they don't have an orange shirt) to recognize Orange Shirt Day and National Truth and Reconciliation Day.

Orange Shirt Day is an opportunity for everyone to come together in the spirit of reconciliation to show their support of a safe, respectful and caring school community. Orange Shirt day began in 2013 when residential school survivor, Phyllis Webstad, shared how her orange shirt was taken away on her first day at residential school. For more information about Orange Shirt Day please visit https://www.cbc.ca/kidscbc2/the-feed/what-is-orange-shirt-day

September 30 is a National Day for Truth and Reconciliation meant to commemorate the history and legacy of Residential Schools in Canada. The intention of this day is to recognize and honor residential school survivors, their families and communities. It also ensures that public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and legacy of residential schools remains a vital component of the reconciliation process. This is a non-operation day for the CBE. Our students will be engaging in learning prior to September 30 to honor this important day and to show our school community’s commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action. Make sure you read our blog posts to learn more about the activities and learning students are doing in their classrooms and within Northern Lights School.
